Are you a dog?

“Fate guides the willing, but drags the unwilling” ~ Cleanthes

I’ve been pondering this quote for the past couple of days. The idea that this mystical force called “fate” somehow has an impenetrable presence in our lives sounds fascinating, doesn’t it. But, hey, what has this got to do with being a dog? Well, the connection may not seem obvious at first. But, if you actually see dogs being walked by their owners, they are oftentimes tied with a long leash. This is done so that when dogs meander aside or get distracted by barking at strangers, the owner can use the leash to pull the dog along the walking path.

Aren’t we humans the same way? All of us, regardless of our age and gender have this inner voice inside us that talks to us, telling us what to do and what not to do. And the moment we don’t heed that voice, the moment we step out of our boundaries we get a calling from the heart alarming us and putting us back on track. If this is true, then how much of our decisions is truly self-made and how much of it is fate’s doing? If it is predominantly by fate, then aren’t we like dogs in that regard with the leash being our fate? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
