Why you should write

There’s been this age old misconception that only if you are a genius you should write. On the outset, reality may seem to reinforce this myth. How often do you see an autobiography written by an average joe going about his monotonous daily routines? Hardly any, right? Every time you go to Amazon or Goodreads, you see autobiographies of these so-called visionaries: Steve Jobs, Rockefeller, Lincoln, … and any other person of wealth, power, or influence seem to be making the cut. Don’t mistake me, I am inspired by some of these very people and by their stories. But, what I’m trying to get across is that you don’t need a nobel peace price to write a book or an article on medium. All you need is a healthy mind and a cup of coffee — well even that last part is not quite needed — a brain should do just fine.

A lot of people think that great ideas breed eloquent writing. In actuality, the opposite is true — writing helps you think. There’s some kind of magic to it. It helps concretize all the intangible ambitions that you have. When you put things into letters, it helps you focus on what’s important for you and what’s not. In fact, that’s why I write on medium and tweet on Twitter. Think of writing as the mirror for your brain. Just one post will tell you whether your thoughts are looking good or not.

So, what are you waiting for? Start writing. It could be a tweet, an article, a book, or just a personal journal that you read for yourself and to yourself.

PS: If you like this story and would like to hear more, follow me on medium ;)
